To celebrate the bicentenary of Giambattista Bodoni’s Il manuale tipografico a unique exhibition piece is created that draws a line from 200 years ago into the future by connecting traditional Italian craftsmanship with state of the art digital technology in an experimental way. An installation that connects the past, present and future of Bodoni.
For the exhibition “Segni Esemplari“ at Museo Bodoniano in Parma, Italy, Pentagram – Sascha Lobe – proposed to create a contemporary, poetic and dynamic expression of the longstanding legacy of the Bodoni typeface. And therefore created a calendar using only the Bodoni letterforms from the original Manuale Tipografico, a Carrara marble stone, and a 31-inch e-Ink display screen using MpicoSys Ultra Low Power technology.
An installation that gives a notion of time through the interplay of typography, choice of materials, and technology.
